Background of SGK1

Serine/threonine-protein kinase Sgk1, also called SGK1, encodes a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays an important role in cellular stress response. By fluorescence in situ hybridization, this gene is mapped to 6q23.2. This kinase activates certain potassium, sodium, and chloride channels, suggesting an involvement in the regulation of processes such as cell survival, neuronal excitability, and renal sodium excretion. High levels of expression of this gene may contribute to conditions such as hypertension and diabetic nephropathy. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been noted for this gene.

Antibody Validation

Boster validates all antibodies on WB, IHC, ICC, Immunofluorescence, and ELISA with known positive control and negative samples to ensure specificity and high affinity, including thorough antibody incubations.

Asked: 2018-11-29

Answer

The anti-SGK1 antibody (PB9434) has not been validated for cross reactivity specifically with goat tissues, though there is a good chance of cross reactivity. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in goat you can get your next antibody for free. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.

Question

We have observed staining in human female gonad. What should we do? Is anti-SGK1 antibody supposed to stain female gonad positively?

Verified Customer

Asked: 2018-11-23

Answer

From what I have seen in literature female gonad does express SGK1. From what I have seen in Uniprot.org, SGK1 is expressed in female gonad, brain, glioblastoma, hippocampus skin, hair follicle dermal papilla, cervix, cervix carcinoma, among other tissues. Regarding which tissues have SGK1 expression, here are a few articles citing expression in various tissues:
Brain, Pubmed ID: 10191262, 14702039, 18753299
Cervix, Pubmed ID: 15489334
Cervix carcinoma, Pubmed ID: 18691976, 20068231
