Description

The human GM2A protein, also known as GM2 ganglioside activator protein, is a small glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism. It is primarily expressed in lysosomes, where it binds to and facilitates the breakdown of a type of lipid molecule known as GM2 ganglioside. This lipid molecule is typically found in high concentrations in the nervous system and plays a key role in neural signaling. Deficiencies in the GM2A protein have been linked to a rare genetic disorder known as GM2 gangliosidosis, which can lead to the accumulation of GM2 ganglioside in the brain and nervous system. This can result in severe neurological symptoms, including developmental delays, seizures, and loss of motor function. Storage & Handling

Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C for 1 year. Upon reconstitution, store at 2°C to 8°C for up to 1 week. Further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein or stabilizer (e.g. 0.1% BSA, 10%FBS, 5%HSA or 5% trehalose solution), protein aliquots should be stored at -20°C or -80°C for 3-6 months. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
