May act as a GTPase-activating protein for RAB2A, RAB8A, RAB10 and RAB14.

Isoform 2 promotes insulin-induced sugar transporter SLC2A4/GLUT4 translocation at the plasma membrane, thus increasing glucose uptake.

Tissue Specificity

Widely expressed. Isoform 2 is the highest overexpressed in most tissues. Isoform 1 is highly expressed in skeletal muscle and heart, but was not detectable in the liver nor in adipose tissue. Isoform 2 is strongly expressed in adrenal and thyroid gland, and also in lung, kidney, colon, brain and adipose tissue. Isoform 2 is moderately expressed in skeletal muscle. Expressed in pancreatic Langerhans islets, including beta cells (at protein level). Expression is decreased by twofold in pancreatic islets in type 2 diabetes patients compared to control subjects. Up-regulated in T-cells from patients with atopic dermatitis.

Subcellular Localizations

Cytoplasm. Isoform 2 shows a cytoplasmic perinuclear localization in a myoblastic cell line in resting and insulin-stimulated cells.

Steven Boster's history

The history of Steven Boster's family is filled with many memorable events. Steve loved his family above all else. He sang in his low register in front of his family, and he was a great fan of sports and auto racing. If his car broke down at two in the morning, he was the first call for help. Even in below-freezing weather, he showed up to fix it. His generosity was also extended to friends, who were treated like family.

In his brief history, Steve Boster was born on April 16, 1947 in Joliet, IL. He was a retail sales manager for many years. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Concordia Hall in Staunton, VA. He is survived by his two Daughters, Crystal Boster and Natosha Peck, and six grandchildren, along with four brothers: Jack Boster, Sandra Blanton, and Tammy. His grandchildren, Jonathan and Cory, also survive him.
