Potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily B member 2 (KCNB2)

Voltage-gated potassium channel that mediates transmembrane potassium transfer in excitable membranes, primarily in the mind and smooth muscle cells. Homotetrameric channels mediate a delayed-rectifier voltage-dependent outward potassium current that show rapid activation and slow inactivation in response to membrane depolarization.

Can form functional homotetrameric and heterotetrameric channels which contain variable proportions of KCNB1; station properties are based on the type of alpha subunits which are part of the station. Can also form functional heterotetrameric channels with other alpha subunits which are non- running when expressed independently, such as KCNS1 and KCNS2, creating a functionally diverse assortment of channel complexes.
