Negative regulator of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. Prevents mitochondrial hyperpolarization condition and limits mitochondrial generation of ATP (By similarity).

Acts as an import component of the TIM23 translocase complex. Stimulates the ATPase activity of HSPA9.
