p53 soform 113p53 promotes zebrafish heart regeneration by maintaining redox homeostasis

Authors: Ye, S., Zhao, T., Zhang, W., Tang, Z., Gao, C., Ma, Z., Xiong, J.W., Peng, J...
Journal: Cell Death & Disease

Neonatal mice and adult zebrafish can fully regenerate their hearts through proliferation of pre-existing cardiomyocytes. Previous studies have revealed that p53 signalling is activated during cardiac regeneration in neonatal mice and that hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) generated near the wound site acts as a novel signal to promote...

Indoxyl sulfate induces intestinal barrier injury through IRF1-DRP1 axis mediated mitophagy impairment

Authors: Huang, Y., Zhou, J., Wang, S., Xiong, J., Chen, Y., Liu, Y., Xiao, T., Li, Y…
Journal: Theranostics

The dysfunctional gut-kidney axis forms a vicious circle, which eventually becomes a catalyst for the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and occurrence of related complications. However, the pathogenic factors of CKD-associated intestinal dysfunction and its mechanism remain elusive. We first identified the protein-bound uremic...

Substrate metabolism regulated by Sestrin2-mTORC1 alleviates pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy in aged heart

Authors: Quan, N., Li, X., Zhang, J., Han, Y., Sun, W., Ren, D., Tong, Q., & Li, J.
Journal: Redox Biology

Sestrin2 (Sesn2) is a stress sensor for the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) pathway. Aging impairs cardiac mTORC1 activation, thereby sensitizing the heart to hypertrophy. C57BL/6 J young wild-type (young WT; 4–6 months), aged WT (24–26 months), and young Sestrin2 knockout mice (Y-Sesn2 KO; 4–6 months) underwent transverse aortic...

Deficiency of microRNA-628-5p promotes the progression of gastric cancer by upregulating PIN1

Authors: Chen, Y., Wu, Y., Yu, S., Yang, H., Wang, X., Zhang, Y., Zhu, S., Jie, M...
Journal: Cell Death & Disease

Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancer and is the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality in the world. PIN1, belonging to peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase family, uniquely catalyzes the structural transformation of phosphorylated Ser/Thr-Pro motif. It’s high expressed in most cancers and promotes their progression. However, the...

Microglia induce the transformation of A1/A2 reactive astrocytes via the CXCR7/PI3K/Akt pathway in chronic post-surgical pain

Authors: Li, T., Liu, T., Chen, X., Feng, M., Zhang, Y., Wan, L., Zhang, C., & Yao, W.
Journal: Journal of Neuroinflammation

Activated astrocytes play important roles in chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP). Recent studies have shown reactive astrocytes are classified into A1 and A2 phenotypes, but their precise roles in CPSP remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the roles of spinal cord A1 and A2 astrocytes and related mechanisms in CPSP. We used a skin/muscle...

Extracellular vesicles from adipose-derived stem cells ameliorate ultraviolet B-induced skin photoaging by attenuating reacting oxygen species production and inflammation

Authors: Xu, P., Xin, Y., Zhang, Z., Zou, X., Xue, K., Zhang, H., Zhang, W., & Liu, K.
Journal: Stem Cell Research & Therapy

Large numbers of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are easily obtained and have been demonstrated to protect against ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced skin photoaging. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) exhibit some of the same effects as the cells from which they originate and have many advantages over stem cells. In particular, their application circumvents many...

Mitogen- and Stress-Activated Protein Kinase 1 Mediates Alcohol-Upregulated Transcription of Brf1 and tRNA Genes to Cause Phenotypic Alteration

Authors: Lin, M., Huang, C., Ren, W., Chen, J., Xia, N., & Zhong, S.
Journal: Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity

Upregulation of Brf1 (TFIIB-related factor 1) and Pol III gene (RNA polymerase III-dependent gene, such as tRNAs and 5S rRNA) activities is associated with cell transformation and tumor development. Alcohol intake causes liver injury, such as steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis, and cirrhosis, which enhances the risk of HCC development. However, the...

Hydroxy-α-sanshool possesses protective potentials on H2O2-stimulated PC12 cells by suppression of oxidative stress-induced apoptosis through regulation of PI3K/Akt signal pathway

Authors: Li, R.L., Zhang, Q., Liu, J., Sun, J.Y., He, L.Y. Duan, H.X., Peng, W., & Wu, C.J.
Journal: Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity

Zanthoxylum bungeanum pericarp is a commonly used herbal medicine in China with effects of anti-inflammatory and analgesic, improving learning and memory ability, while hydroxy-α-sanshool (HAS) is the most important active ingredient of Z. bungeanum pericarps. The purpose of this study was to investigate the neuroprotective effect of HAS and...

SOCS2 inhibits mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation via suppressing LepR/JAK2/AMPK signaling pathway in mouse adipocytes

Authors: Zhang, T., Chen, Y., Cai, J., Pan, M., Sun, Q., Zhang, J., & Sun, C.
Journal: Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity

Suppressor of cytokine signaling 2 (SOCS2) plays an important role in fat deposition, skeletal muscle, central nervous system development, and mitochondria biogenesis. Nevertheless, the regulatory mechanisms of SOCS2 on mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation (FAO) remain unclear. Leptin could inhibit food intake and increase...

Electroacupuncture intervention of visceral hypersensitivity is involved in PAR-2-activation and CGRP-release in the spinal cord

Authors: Shah, M.K., Ding, Y., Wan, J., Janyaro, H., Tahir, A.H., Vodyanoy, V...
Journal: Scientific Reports

Electroacupuncture (EA) relieves visceral hypersensitivity (VH) with underlying inflammatory bowel diseases. However, the mechanism by which EA treats ileitis-induced VH is not clearly known. To assess the effects of EA on ileitis-induced VH and confirm whether EA attenuates VH through spinal PAR-2 activation and CGRP release, goats...
