Background of IL-13
IL-13, Interleukin 13, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL-13 gene. IL-13 is a kind of cytokine secreted by many cell types, but especially T helper type 2 (Th2) cells, which is an important mediator of allergic inflammation and disease. The IL-13 gene is mapped to 5q23-q31. IL-13 induces its effects through a multi-subunit receptor that includes the alpha chain of the IL-4 receptor (IL-4Rα) and at least one of two known IL-13-specific binding chains. This gene acts more prominently as a molecular bridge linking allergic inflammatory cells to the non-immune cells in contact with them, thereby altering physiological function.

Question
We purchased anti-IL13 antibody for WB on blood in a previous experiment. I am using human, and I plan to use the antibody for ELISA next. Our lab want to know about examining blood as well as left testis in our next experiment. Do you have any suggestion on which antibody would work the best for ELISA?

Question
We have observed staining in human left testis. Any tips? Is anti-IL13 antibody supposed to stain left testis positively?
Verified Customer
Verified customer
Asked: 2019-08-26
Answer
According to literature left testis does express IL13. According to Uniprot.org, IL13 is expressed in left testis, blood, peripheral blood lymphocyte, among other tissues. Regarding which tissues have IL13 expression, here are a few articles citing expression in various tissues:
Blood, Pubmed ID: 7721105
Peripheral blood lymphocyte, Pubmed ID: 1408833

Question
We are currently using anti-IL13 antibody RP1047 for human tissue, and we are well pleased with the WB results. The species of reactivity given in the datasheet says human. Is it possible that the antibody can work on primate tissues as well?
Verified Customer
Verified customer
Asked: 2017-12-01
Answer
The anti-IL13 antibody (RP1047) has not been validated for cross reactivity specifically with primate tissues, though there is a good chance of cross reactivity. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in primate you can get your next antibody for free. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.
