Functions as a repressor or an activator. Binds to 5'-AATTTCACACCTAGGTGTGAAATT-3' core order and appears to regulate MYC-MAX target genes.

Suppresses transcriptional activation by MYC and inhibits MYC-dependent cell transformation. Function triggered by heterodimerization with MAX.
