Hairy/enhancer-of-split related with YRPW motif protein 2 (Hey2)

Transcriptional repressor which acts as a downstream effector of Notch signaling in cardiovascular development. Especially required for the Notch-induced endocardial epithelial to mesenchymal transition, which is itself criticial for cardiac valve and septum development.

May be required in combination with HEY1 to define arterial cell fate or individuality. Promotes maintenance of neuronal precursor cells and glial versus neuronal fate specification.
