Steven Boster, who is the inventor of the CREG1 protein has a unique track record of developing biotechnology products. His work on immunohistochemistry (IHC) products, including hundreds of primary antibodies, earned him the nickname "he that converts science into the lavatory". Boster was China’s leading antibody catalog company, by the late 1990s. Today, his company sells high-sensitivity ELISA products using his PicoKine platform.
CREG1 has multiple biological applications, including research in cancer. CREG1 is a crucial marker in many types of cancer research, including a study of pancreatic carcinoma. Although CREG1 doesn't represent a specific type of cancer gene, it is involved for many diseases, including ovarian and cervical cancer. Boster Bio has developed an antibody that can detect CREG1 within cancer cells. It can be used in a variety ways.
The CREG1 marker is a high affinity ligand for the mannose-6-phosphate receptor (M6P/IGF2R). CREG is processed intracellularly by proteases, particularly lysosomal cysteine proteases, to yield smaller molecules. It is unknown what the biological significance of this process is. Products of CREG1 are a new class proteins whose biological effects remain unknown.
Sacher et. al. solved CREG1's crystal structure and found that it had a pyrid oxidasedomain without an FMN binding cleft. CREG does not bind FMN and is a dimer. CREG binds to dimers tightly, and monomers form a split b barrel structure. Each monomer's surface is different, with the smoother surface serving as a dimerization spot. The concave area may facilitate protein-protein interaction.
CREG, a glycoprotein that has an M6P domain, is essential for embryonic growth in Drosophila as well as mice. However, the mechanism through which CREG regulates embryonic differentiation is still unknown. Therefore, further research is needed to understand its function. Previous cell culture studies have shown CREG1's role in differentiation and growth. However, it remains to be established whether it is necessary for embryonic development, senescence, or other developmental processes.
As adipose tissues age, inflammation becomes a major component. In aged Tg mice, adipocytes that produce brown/beige adipocytes reduce inflammation and contribute to the prevention of renal crystal formation. According to morphological analysis, high CREG1 levels do not accelerate cellular senescence of adipose tissue cells. Although CREG1 expression does increase aging in mice, iBATs tend to grow larger with age.
In mice, the CREG1 knockdown model promoted lipolysis in obese mice. Creg1 knockdown mice gained weight when given high-fat diets. This weight gain is primarily due to the adipose tissues, which is a key characteristic in obesity. Creg1+/ mice retained their normal bodyweight when they were not exposed to HFD.
Multiple signaling pathways are altered in cardiac pathology by increasing CREG. Mice with decreased CREG1 expression develop angiotensin-induced cardiac fibrosis. Pressure overload-induced heart remodeling was also promoted due to decreased autophagy levels and Rab7 expression in CREGknockout mice. This effect was not observed in ATG5-specific ATG5 knockout mice. It is important to recognize the role of cholesterol regulators in cardiovascular disease.
The CREG1 genetic marker has been recognized as one of most common markers for the development of cancer. Boster Bio offers the CREG1 marker in a variety formats, including WB or ELISA. This antibody reacts well with Human and is subject to Immunofluorescence testing. It can be stored at 20°C. The CREG1 marker is expressed in a number of tissues and cells and is highly responsive to CREG1 antigens.
