Welcome to the June issue of Research Spotlight! We are happy to feature 10 selected publications from scientists whom Boster has served.
Recent neurological research has uncovered the impact of glioblastoma on human neural circuits, providing insights into decreased survival. In oncology, researchers revealed the role of hepatic stellate cell stearoyl co-A desaturase in promoting liver tumorigenesis through the leukotriene B4 receptor 2 - β-catenin cascade.
Exciting advancements in biomedical techniques have also emerged. Scientists successfully alleviated chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain using conditioned serum and exosomes. Single-cell RNA sequencing, nanoliposome-based thermosensitive hydrogels, and a protein domain-oriented approach have shed light on meningeal lymphatic dysfunction, osteoarthritis, and retinitis pigmentosa, respectively.
These scientific findings provide hope for improved treatments and therapies. Scroll down to find out more about the research studies!

Gliomas synaptically integrate into neural circuits. Previous research has demonstrated bidirectional interactions between neurons and glioma cells, with neuronal activity driving glioma growth and gliomas increasing neuronal excitability. Here we sought to determine how glioma-induced neuronal changes influence neural circuits…

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the 3rd most deadly malignancy. Activated hepatic stellate cells (aHSC) give rise to cancer-associated fibroblasts in HCC and are considered a potential therapeutic target. Here we report that selective ablation of stearoyl CoA desaturase-2 (Scd2) in aHSC globally suppresses nuclear CTNNB1 and YAP1 in...

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is the most prevalent neurological complication of chemotherapy for cancer, and has limited effective treatment options. Autologous conditioned serum (ACS) is an effective biologic therapy used by intra-articular injection for patients with osteoarthritis. However, ACS has not been…

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a devastating subtype of stroke with high mortality and disability rate. Meningeal lymphatic vessels (mLVs) are a newly discovered intracranial fluid transport system and are proven to drain extravasated erythrocytes from cerebrospinal fluid into deep cervical lymph nodes after SAH. However, many studies…

Immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) or programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) have enabled some patients with cancer to experience durable, complete treatment responses; however, reliable anti–PD-(L)1 treatment response biomarkers are lacking. Our research found that PD-L1 K162 was methylated…

Cellular senescence and the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) have been implicated in osteoarthritis (OA). This study aims to determine whether multi-kinase inhibitor YKL-05-099 (Y099) has potential in senescence elimination and OA therapy and whether delivering Y099 by nanoliposmal hydrogel improves the performance of…

Background: Carbon dots (CDs), as excellent antibacterial nanomaterials, have gained great attention in treating infection-induced diseases such as periodontitis and stomatitis. Given the eventual exposure of CDs to the intestine, elucidating the effect of CDs on intestinal health is required for the safety evaluation of CDs. Results…

The one-carbon metabolism enzyme methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase 2 (MTHFD2) is involved in the regulation of tumor oncogenesis and immune cell functions, but whether it can contribute to macrophage polarization remains elusive. Here, we show that MTHFD2 suppresses polarization of interferon-γ-activated macrophages (M(IFN-γ))...

Loss-of-function mutations in USH2A are among the most common causes of syndromic and non-syndromic retinitis pigmentosa (RP). We previously presented skipping of USH2A exon 13 as a promising treatment paradigm for USH2A-associated RP. However, RP-associated mutations are often private, and evenly distributed along the USH2A gene. In…
