Background of MAGP-2/MFAP5
This antibody is suitable for Cancer, Immunology and Nuclear Signaling research. MAGP-2 (also known as Microfibril-associated glycoprotein 2, MFAP-2, MP25 and Microfibrillar-associated protein 5 precursor) is a secreted, extracellular matrix protein which is a component of the elastin-associated microfibrils. It forms intermolecular disulfide bonds either with other MAGP-2 molecules or with other components of the microfibrils. MAGP-2 is upregulated in some ovarian cancers and is associated with poor survival of ovarian cancer patients.
Antibody Validation
Boster validates all antibodies on WB, IHC, ICC, Immunofluorescence, and ELISA with known positive control and negative samples to ensure specificity and high affinity, including thorough antibody incubations.

Western blot analysis of MAGP-2 expression in secreted MAGP-2 (lane 2) and a MAGP-2 transfected HEK293 lysate (lane 3). No staining is detected in supernatants from non-transfected cells (lane 1). MAGP-2 at 20-30KD was detected using rabbit anti-MAGP-2 Antigen Affinity purified polyclonal antibody (Catalog # A07400) at 1:100. Personal Communication, Micheal Birrer, CCR-NCI, Bethesda, MD.

Question
Does A07400 anti-MAGP-2 antibody work on parafin embedded sections? If so, which fixation method do you recommend we use (PFA, paraformaldehyde, other)?
Verified Customer
Verified customer
Asked: 2019-07-30
Answer
You can see on the product datasheet, A07400 anti-MAGP-2 antibody as been tested on WB. It is best to use PFA for fixation because it has better tissue penetration ability. PFA needs to be prepared fresh before use. Long term stored PFA turns into formalin, as the PFA molecules congregate and become formalin.

Question
Does anti-MAGP-2 antibody A07400 work on feline WB with skeletal muscle?
Verified Customer
Verified customer
Asked: 2018-01-01
Answer
Our lab technicians have not validated anti-MAGP-2 antibody A07400 on feline. You can run a BLAST between feline and the immunogen sequence of anti-MAGP-2 antibody A07400 to see if they may cross-react. If the sequence homology is close, then you can perform a pilot test. Keep in mind that since we have not validated feline samples, this use of the antibody is not covered by our guarantee. However we have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in feline skeletal muscle in WB, you can get your next antibody for free.

Question
We are currently using anti-MAGP-2 antibody A07400 for human tissue, and we are content with the WB results. The species of reactivity given in the datasheet says human. Is it true that the antibody can work on horse tissues as well?

Asked: 2017-07-13
Answer
The anti-MAGP-2 antibody (A07400) has not been validated for cross reactivity specifically with horse tissues, though there is a good chance of cross reactivity. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in horse you can get your next antibody for free. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.
